Shana Holmes, CEO

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Southeastern Illinois Agency on Aging. It is an honor to serve the older adults, families, caregivers, and community partners who make up our nine‑county rural and remote region. For 51 years, our mission has remained steadfast: to help people age well in the communities they know and love.

The services supported through the Older Americans Act are absolutely essential to our part of Illinois. In small towns and remote county areas, these programs are often the only lifeline for older adults who want to remain independent, connected, and safe at home. From nutrition and transportation to caregiver support, wellness programs, and community resources, these services are instrumental in strengthening the fabric of rural life.

Since 1975, our agency has been guided by aging experts who understand the unique challenges and strengths of rural communities. We work every day to protect, develop, and expand programs that honor the dignity of older adults and ensure they have access to the support they deserve. Our mission is like none other—rooted in compassion, built on decades of experience, and driven by a commitment to serve every corner of our region.

We are grateful you’re here. Whether you are seeking services, supporting a loved one, or simply learning more, we welcome you and stand ready to help.

At the Southeastern Illinois Agency on Aging, we are dedicated to serving individuals aged 60 and above, as well as those with disabilities and relatives raising relatives. We offer a range of services designed to promote independence and well-being. Our meal programs operate on a donation basis for those over 60, ensuring access to nutrition without financial burden. We warmly welcome participants below the age threshold to join the meals at local senior centers at specified rates.

Through our dedication to community service, we aim to provide holistic support that includes more than just meal services. Our initiatives focus on empowering our senior community by fostering social connections and providing necessary resources. Support for Veterans

Column

Our Veterans Independence Program is specifically tailored to thank and support those who have served our country. This program aids veterans by providing financial assistance for caregivers and addressing home-related needs, ensuring they receive the quality support necessary to maintain independence. We encourage eligible veterans to visit their local VA Medical Center for assessment and enrollment opportunities.

We recognize the sacrifices made by veterans and strive to honor their service through tangible support. By facilitating access to essential resources and financial aid, our program aims to ease the transition back into civilian life, allowing veterans to live safely and comfortably in the environments they call home. Our goal is to empower veterans with the dignity and respect they have earned, providing them with opportunities to remain engaged and active within their communities.
